23 years ago I ran my first marathon through the streets of L.A. with my dad. It was a special experience that I treasure. Last Sunday my daughter Megan and I completed the marathon together. I’m very proud of the hard work and dedication that she put into making this happen. I’m also grateful for all the support and encouragement she has received from family and friends.
We ran as “fundracers” for Back on My Feet (BoMF) – a national for-purpose 501(c)3 organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can bring about positive transformation in their lives such as obtaining employment and independent living. I am currently serving as the BoMF team leader at Homeboy Industries.
Fundracers for BoMF raised a combined $29,000 for this great cause.
I was also reminded how meaningful it is to receive support and encouragement along the way. So many Angelinos come out on the course to offer everything from kind words to beers! If you haven’t run a marathon, or come out to watch and support one, I would suggest you put this on your calendar for next year!
